A hotel for Regensburg
“What a wealth of atmospheric, picturesque effects is spread across these squares and squares, streets and alleys”
In 1911, the historian Karl Theodor Heigel characterized the peculiarities of Regensburg’s old town.
The “Münchner Hof” is located in the middle of this narrow maze of streets. The location, surrounded by high family towers, medieval trading houses and representative patrician residences, is unique. In the immediate vicinity, the two cathedral towers rise over 100 meters into the sky and just a stone’s throw away the Stone Bridge, the medieval architectural wonder, spans the Danube.
The “Zur weisse Taube” restaurant from 1822 was renamed the Münchner Hof almost 75 years later, because it was the only restaurant in Regensburg and the surrounding area that was already getting the world-famous beer from Munich at the time. This was delivered once a week by horse-drawn carriage. So the renaming to “Münchner Hof” was a clever marketing measure.
In 1937 the restaurant became a hotel with a restaurant.
Since then, the “Münchner Hof” has been a company run by the 3rd generation of families and the bosses are all women:
Emma Wanninger (grandmother), Karin Helmberger (mother) and Kathrin Fuchshuber (daughter).
