Altstadtquartier Regensburg – The traces of the centuries

Hotel Münchner Hof Regensburg mittelalterliche Bohlenstube
In many places in the AltstadtQuartier Münchner Hof there are traces of long-gone architectural styles that testify to centuries of building history. Gothic wooden ceilings, baroque floors, medieval support beams and various door arches.

Restorations in the 20th and 21st centuries have not only uncovered these details, but have also restored them to their original use wherever possible. To this day, you walk through the low medieval archway into a modern hotel room, small baroque doors still close.

In the Middle Ages, a tower made of solid stone offered the safest protection against the dreaded city fires. The living rooms, on the other hand, were made of wood. You usually find horizontally layered beams with powerful corner supports. This was the traditional wooden construction in Regensburg. However, only wealthy patrician families could afford this type of residential tower and wooden parlor. They were the living rooms of fine people.

Only a few of these so-called Bohlenstuben have been completely preserved. There is one of these Bohlenstuben in the AltstadtQuartier Münchner Hof, which was discovered during renovation work in 1994. It has been almost completely preserved and has been integrated into the hotel operations.
