The Chess shop at the AltstadtQuartier

An institution on Tändlergasse for more than 50 years.

The trained master carpenter Johann Zimmermann has been running the chess shop in the AltstadtQuartier for more than 50 years.

After his master’s examination, Mr. Zimmermann specialized in inlay work at the end of the 1960s and opened a shop for chessboards.

“I love unusual woods and look for them all over Europe.”

He has been collecting these rare woods for decades and creating wonderful “masterpieces” with his chessboards.
